WBC was formed in 1994 in a village in rural Herefordshire called Woonton. This is where Woonton Building Contractors (WBC) was established.

Although WBC is based in Herefordshire, we are positioned with good access to Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Powys in Wales, but we also welcome enquiries throughout the UK, especially for larger projects.

WBC's Civil Engineering Project Management team have the skills, experience, knowledge, commitment and ethos to successfully deliver engineering projects on time and to budget. Whatever the size of your project, our construction teams are aware of the responsibility they have for excellence, safety and respect for the environment. WBC are heavily focused on clients' requirements with continued investment in staff, technology, plant and machinery.

WBC are proud to have been awarded the CHAS certificate of accreditation, demonstrating compliance with, and sound management of, current health and safety legislation.

Projects WBC have recently completed include:

  • Huge 4 acre production and warehouse building, site preparation, floor slab with integral underfloor heating system, dock levellers, internal 2-storey offices, retaining walls, foul & stormwater drainage, oil separator, external concrete, asphalt and resin bound gravel areas.
  • Construction of residential properties to include demolition, site clearance, foundations, brickwork and masonry, foul and surface water drainage, creation of gardens, patio slabs, fencing and gates.
  • Storage and processing building for a local brewery including foundations, retaining walls, masonry walls, drainage, dock levellers, steel frame building with composite roof and wall cladding, drainage, external storage areas, specialist non-slip floor covering to floor slab and storm water attenuation pond.
  • Several cattle cubicle building projects that have included demolition and site clearance of existing buildings. Construction of steel framed buildings, slurry handling systems, precast concrete wall panels, grooved non slip cattle flooring, installation of cubicles and feed passages.
  • Biogas installations together with mass concrete, steel reinforced, silage clamps, steel frame technical building, weighbridge, electrical substation, water storage lagoon, bunded tank compound with many tank and equipment bases together with many miles of associated pipework and ducting.
  • Flood alleviation scheme comprising excavation and landscaping of site to provide storm water attenuation pond, bunding to existing residential site, culverts and headwalls into watercourse.
  • Extension to garden centre to create additional retail space for horticultural produce. This involved removal of existing display areas, construction of steel frame building, floor slab, masonry walls, creation of concrete drainage swale to rectify flooding issue to existing car park, laying of paving, access ramps, handrails, car charging points  and bollards.
  • Hydroelectric scheme at Ludlow to provide electricity to the local community. This project involved working within a watercourse, overseen by environmental consultants and archaeologists comprising installation of cofferdam, excavation of existing structures, mass concrete walls to support hydroelectric screw, stone facing of walls, construction of eel pass and the logistics of getting large equipment and a crane down narrow lanes.

These photos show the stages of construction of the hydroelectric scheme in Ludlow. Due to the natural beauty of the surrounding area, the aesthetics of the project were very important, as well as minimising any environmental impact of the water course.

WBC faced the reinforced concrete with an external face of natural stone, to ensure the scheme blended in with the old water mill building.

WBC are very proud of this hydroelectric scheme, which provides a natural source of renewable energy to the local community.

Track Remediation & Cement Stabilisation

WBC have recently acquired plant and machinery for track restoration and cement stabilisation, which breaks up and crushes existing hardcore access tracks, with pot holes and ruts, into a smooth graded roadway.

The existing hardcore material, lumps of brick, concrete and stone, are broken up and crushed to provide an ideal hardcore material which is graded and compacted flat.

Ripper - Rips through and loosens existing surfacing

MeriRoad Crusher - Breaks up existing hardcore material, to an average depth of 150mm. Pulvarises large lumps of hardcore into suitable hardcore material.

Bobcat Grader - Levels the hardcore material and creates a fall away from the centre of the track, or to one side.

Multi-plate Compaction - Hydraulic vibrating plates compact and consolidate the hardcore making it suitable for plant and traffic.

If you have a civil engineering enquiry, at whatever stage, then please contact WBC Civil Engineers by phone, or send us your enquiry and supporting documentation via email. WBC can then discuss your construction requirements, timescales, budget and what you are hoping to achieve.

We look forward to hearing from you!
